Nestled beneath the woodland canopy of Glanmire, Cork’s Vienna Woods Hotel is about to get even more enchanting. With two major greenway projects unfolding right at our doorstep, guests will soon enjoy seamless access to vibrant trails that unlock East Cork’s beauty like never before.
Midleton–Youghal Greenway: Nature’s Corridor into History
Imagine stepping onto a former railway track, the morning mist drifting above the trail as you follow a path flanked by ancient trees. That’s exactly what the Midleton–Youghal Greenway delivers. The first 8 km stretch from Midleton to Mogeely opened in March 2024, inviting cyclists and walkers to explore in style. By December 2024, the remaining 15 km to historic Youghal were completed, making the full 23 km route accessible and irresistible to adventure seekers . This gentle, mostly flat trail winds through charming villages, past cafés, bike rental stations, and inviting rest stops, a perfect way to experience East Cork at your own pace.
Glanmire–City Cycle Route: A Town to Country Connection
If exploring Cork city and surrounding countryside is more your pace, the Glanmire–City Cycle Route Phase 2 is your new ticket. This planned 4.9 km cycling corridor will stretch from Tivoli, past Dunkettle, under the bridge, and into Lower Glanmire, eventually linking back to Little Island, Carrigtwohill, and even Midleton . It's packed with thoughtful design: dedicated bike lanes, lighting, benches, and biodiversity enhancements. The route is expected to open sometime in 2025, offering safe, scenic passage for both leisure riders and anyone commuting by bike.
