Why August is the Perfect Time for a Woodland Escape in Cork

- Posted on: 17/08/2026 -

August is one of those months when Cork is at its best. The days are still long, the evenings are bright, and the woods are full of colour. It’s the perfect time to step away from the usual routine and enjoy a few days surrounded by nature.

For a relaxing summer break, Cork’s Vienna Woods Hotel offers a peaceful base just minutes from Cork City, with plenty of woodland to explore and plenty to enjoy without having to travel far.

Enjoy Cork's August Events

August is also a great month to visit because there is always something happening around the city and county.

One of the highlights of the Cork calendar is Cork on a Fork Fest, which took place from the 12th to the 16th of August 2026. The annual five day celebration brings Cork's food scene to life with almost 100 events, including food trails, tastings, chef collaborations, cooking demonstrations, workshops and special dining experiences.

For those who enjoy exploring Cork's history and heritage, Heritage Week takes place from the 15th to the 23rd of  August, with events taking place across Cork City and County. It's a great opportunity to discover some of the stories, buildings and places that make Cork so interesting.

With food, music, history and culture all on the calendar, August is a great excuse to spend a few days exploring Cork rather than simply passing through.

Slow Down and Enjoy the Outdoors

After a busy day exploring, it's nice to have somewhere peaceful to come back to.

Our woodland grounds are ideal for a quiet morning stroll, an evening walk or simply taking a little time to enjoy the surroundings. The trees and gardens are at their fullest during the summer months, making the grounds a lovely place to spend time before heading out to explore Cork.

Explore Cork from a Peaceful Base

Cork’s Vienna Woods is close enough to Cork City to make exploring easy, while still offering a real sense of escape when you return.

Spend the day wandering through the city, visit one of Cork's many attractions, or head further afield to explore the coastline and towns and villages around the county. From Cobh and Kinsale to Fota and the city centre, there is plenty to discover within easy reach.

Then, when you're ready to slow down, you can return to the hotel and enjoy the quieter surroundings.

Make Time for Good Food

A summer escape doesn't need to involve a packed itinerary. Sometimes a good meal and a leisurely afternoon are all you need.

Enjoy lunch or dinner at Mabel Crawford's Bistro, or settle in for a drink in the Glassroom. During the warmer months, it's an ideal opportunity to take your time over a meal, catch up with friends or simply enjoy being somewhere different.

Make the Most of the Long Evenings

August still gives you plenty of daylight to make the most of your day. You can head out for an afternoon adventure, return to the hotel for dinner and still have time for a walk through the grounds afterwards.

It's one of the simple pleasures of a late summer stay. There is no need to rush from one activity to the next.

Your August Woodland Escape

Whether you're planning a romantic break, a family staycation or simply fancy a change of scenery, August is a wonderful time to visit Cork.

With summer events happening throughout the city and county, woodland on the doorstep, Cork City just minutes away and plenty of opportunities to enjoy good food and time outdoors, Vienna Woods Hotel is the perfect place to slow down and enjoy the last weeks of summer.
